UAAP Season 73 | Game Preview: UE Red Warriors vs FEU Tamaraws | Round 1
The FEU Tamaraws are ready to seek redemption after lossing two times in a row against the Red Warriors in last year’s Final 4. Meanwhile, the Red Warriors are taking this game as a good venue to prove that they are not a weak team after ending up winless from their last two game assignments.
The much awaited rivarly on the old Azcaraga and on the side of Morayta. Two easts, one will emerge victorious in the end at the continuance of season 73 1st round elimination at the Araneta Coliseum this coming July 22.
Looking Back: Last sunday has been a tough moment for the Red Warriors and to the entire community. We already have 2 terrible losses, 1st the defeat to an unpredictable small UST line up in the season’s opening weekend, which uncanny to watch while Paul Lee was suffering the entire game in his injured foot and then an almost massacre-like performance by a fast and athletic DLSU line up last July 18.
Moving Forward: Going into the match against FEU, total team effort and proper selection will be crucial. Many believed that Coach Chongson had gotten it wrong with the players’ rotation in the last two games. But this time he must get it right. Will Coach Chongson stick with Sam Razon in the starting line up after his 2 unacceptable game performances or he will opt to give a chance to other players like Ivan Hernandez or even JM Noble?
Meanwhile, James Martinez’s form hasn’t been the best and struggling to make his presence felt. May be brought by a year rest, lack of team chemistry with new players, or psychological factor due to his injury last year. But let us make no mistake here: James Martinez, Paul Lee, Paul Zamar, and even Ken Acibar have all played good in the last two games.
It would certainly be great if the Red Warriors’ big men finally show some fangs of aggresiveness to help the team’s campaign. Obviously, the team’s waterloo is in the forward department. They are dead logs inside the court and need so much proper attentions.
Prediction: In a span of more than a year the Red Warriors and the Tamaraws have went each other for 7 times already.
– 2009 Filoil Finals, First Round of Season 72, Quarterfinals of PCCL went to the Tamaraws.
– Second Round, two games in the Final 4 of Season 72; and 2010 Filoil Elimination went to the Red Warriors.
Of course, the line up for both teams has change dramatically and the Tamaraws has the bigger edge against the Red Warriors.
This match will be the real acid test as to whether we can have a fair 1st round standing or not. It’s not that unrealistic, even though the Red Warriors will still need luck to aid them to beat this mighty team from Morayta.
