A battle of mini-offensive run and a great showdown between Paul Lee of UE and Mark Silungan of UP in the 2nd half was seen to give UE its 1st win in 5 game outings last July 31 at the Araneta Coliseum in the continuation of UAAP season 73 1st round elimination.
It was a slow game for both teams in the start of the 1st half with UP’s Alvin Padilla giving the Fighting Maroons a head start by ending the 1st canto 15-8. In the 2nd the field goal lumps still continues, but a resilient UE bench kept UP just to score in the free throw lane and giving them a miserable single field goal on the entire 2nd quarter.
By the start of the 2nd half it was Paul Lee began to navigate the Red Warriors as slowly they make a 9-0 run to give UE a commanding lead of 10 points. But with a series of turnovers in the Red Warriors makes an opportunity to Mark Silungan to tied the game at 33 all, almost 3 minutes left. And having his offensive rhythm even give the lead to UP to 36-33.
In the last quarter, it was a different ball game, where the venue was a witnessed to a tight exchanging of lead, leading in the UP squad is the rookie Mark Silungan who made 20 points, while in the side of UE it’s the always reliable Paul Lee that made a dagger shots in the final minute of the game. Paul Lee finish the game with 23 points, 7 rebounds, 2 steals.
