UAAP Season 73 | Game Preview: UE Red Warriors vs AdU Soaring Falcons | Round 1
Finally after registering to the win column, the University of the East Red Warriors are now gunning for their 2nd win as they will go against a tough squad from Adamson University this coming August 5, 2010 at the Araneta Coliseum.
Looking Back: With a sense of desperation after coming home defeated from 4 game campaigns, the UE Red Warriors finally notch a win against a tall UP line-up. It wasn’t an easy win as the Red Warriors were down in the 1st half and the latter part of regulation. Even the Red Warriors blitzing a 10 points lead, it was immediately melted away by a Mark Silungan led offensive run. But thanks again for the UE’s heart, soul, and leader Paul Lee. The Red Warriors were able to close the gap in the final stretch of regulation. The perimeter shoots from Paul Zamar and Paul Lee were the saviour as for the Fighting Maroons were not giving up the match that easily. As everyone in the community has noticed the Red Warriors finally went on the war of the boards when they were able to out-rebound the much taller UP squad, 46-43. Even it was a low scoring game, the Red Warriors match against the UP Fighting Maroons is the best so far this season.
Moving Forward: We have seen a more active UE frontline from the last two games. Sam Razon has been a very important piece for the Red Warriors even though he’s not a scorer and a consistent rebounder, he’s still actively working with his bulky body to give a clear path for the leaper guards of UE, we just hope that he will continue that for the remaining games of UE. And speaking of guard, James Martinez presence is beginning to be seen after 3 miserable games from him. A reliable option, indeed if Ken Acibar is not-so active offensively.
Prediction: This is not an easy game for the Red Warriors. Adamson Falcons are a tough opponent. With a veteran line-up and reinforce by an Austin Manyera, they are able to prove that this season the Falcons are a contender for a spot in the Final 4. The Red Warriors’ frontline is what we should to take note on this match, just like their previous assignment, the Adamson squad is a big threat down the paint. The Red Warriors should play this game a little tougher to force them to play languid. Keep an eye to their clutch players, especially Cabrerra’s touch beyond-the-arc.
As always, we have to expect a hard defensive campaign against Paul Lee throughout the game just to wither his offensive capacity. This is a very crucial game for the Red Warriors a win against the Adamson Falcons would give them the needed boost for their match against the ADMU Blue Eagles on Sunday.
