UAAP Season 73 | Game Preview: UE Red Warriors vs AdU Soaring Falcons | Round 2
Another heartbreak game has ended when our arch rival FEU Tamaraws sweep us in a strong overtime period and gave the Red Warriors’ one of their worst team standing record in the last decade. While on the other hand, the AdU Soaring Falcons are coming of a 20T victory against the UST Growling Tigers, that solidify their standing to get the Final 4’/s twice-to-beat advantage. Both team will meet in the battlefield on saturday 2 pm, August 21, 2010 at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
Our 1st round affair with the AdU Falcons was also a miserable to remind, knowing how strong this San Marcelino squad this season. Coach Lawrence Chongson and the coaching staff will surely demand and motivate the UE Red Warriors to get a win on them, because right now we’re hanging for dear life to reach on 4th spot of the standing.
In the worst possible time, we will again play the game with no Sam Razon, manning the middle position, while Garrick Ayala and Adrian Santos are not sure availability on the line-up. Now that our frontline positions gone much more thinner, the Red Warriors should take them hard just like what we did against FEU.
One thing we can probably guarantee are Ken Acibar and Paul Lee won’t be getting on their slumber performances this coming weekend, despite Ken Acibar prolific and consistent games throughout the year, we have to take our eyes on Paul Lee’s up and down games, we hope that the coaching staff has already noticed his turnover production which currently at the peak of the standing. Stand-in captian, James Martinez will no doubt lead the line against the most polish backcourt line-up right now in the league. Raffy Reyes will look to carry the guard attack in the paint, together with Paul Lee and Paul Zamar – that’s working on them from the last 3 games. If ever Adrian Santos and Garrick Ayala are not still back in the line-up, the Red Warriors only have 13 players left which surely increases the bench minutes. That’s why we hope a good contribution from them especially JM Noble and Kit Rosopa.
On the AdU Soaring Falcons side, unlike us who are having a worst season in years, Coach Leo Austria’s squad are starting to bear the fruits of their years on the bottom of the standings. They currently have a 7-2 record. They have a formidable backcourt with Lester Alvarez, Alex Nuyles and Jerick Cañada. Aside with the defensive presence of Austin Manyera and William Stinnet; they are very dangerous, and very hungry to get a shot for the championship this year.
Overall, this year has been a tale of inconsistency and falling-out short for the UE Red Warriors, however we can still see on their hearts the “never say die attitude” and the willingness to win every game. But right now, we can’t afford to drop anymore game if we want to sneak into the 4th spot of standing to continue our streak at the Final 4.
