Despite a low scoring game for UE’s main man Paul Lee, the University of the East Red Warriors pulled off an important win over the Adamson University Soaring Falcons in the 73rd UAAP senior’s basketball tournament held at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
Still eyeing for the final slot in the Final Four, the squad from Recto made a good defensive run in the 1st quarter and relatively came close against the squad from San Marcelino, even with an early 2 personal fouls from Paul Lee and 3 turnovers from Ken Acibar, they were still able to end the 1st quarter 16-15.
In the second quarter, the Adamson Soaring Falcons slowly regaining their composure and at 6:54 minutes remaining a Lester Alvarez field goal gives the AdU Falcons a 10 points advantage 28-10. But, the lads of Coach Lawrence Chongson made the necessary adjustment when James Martinez and JM Noble made a 7-0 run to cut down the lead to only 3 points. A follow-up plays from Ken Acibar and Paul Lee snatch back the lead 1:41 remaining. Before ending the 1st half, rookie guard Lord Casajeros scored 5 straight points to go back at the locker room with 36-30 advantage over the AdU Soaring Falcons.
The start of the 3rd quarter went to be an aggressive AdU Falcons when Mike Galinato, Jan Colina scored inside the shaded lane, aside with some fastbreak from Alex Nuyles and Chris Camson that just limit the UE Red Warriors to only 13 points to take back the lead on to end the 3rd quarter, 53-49.
In the final canto, the UE Red Warriors gives the Adu Soaring a taste of their own medicine when they limit them to score only 10 points. Paul Lee, who played the whole game as a quarterback, that created a lot of easy scoring opportunities for James Martinez and Ken Acibar upset the AdU Falcons to end the game, 71-63.
