Cold-blooded James Martinez, gives UE its 2nd straight win

With everything on line the UE Red Warriors made another big upset when they ended ADMU Blue Eagles’ 6 straight wins in a slow and tight ballgame on thursday at the Araneta Coliseum.

In the first half of the game it was a battle between the UE Red Warriors center Ezer Rosopa and ADMU’s Jumbo Escueta. Ezer Rosopa who scored his rookie-career high of 12 points takes in every points inside the shaded lane, while ADMU’s Jumbo Escueta led the Blue Eagles scoring in the low post. Along side with Ken Acibar who scored 7 points, and from ADMU Blue Eagles’ Justin Chua made 9 points. Together with a good defensive campaign in the backcourt and a remarkable fastbreaks, especially from the UE guards ended the 1st half 27 all.

In the 2nd half, the game still went neck-to-neck at the 3rd quarter ADMU took the advantage of Paul Lee’s scoring problem and went to snatch the 3rd quarter with an 11-2 run to give the ADMU’s biggest lead of the game 45-38. The final quarter was completely different from the 1st half were both squads’ bigmen dominated the scoring attack. But throughout the remaining minutes of regulation the guards from both squads took over the show. When James Martinez finally tied the game 45 all, 7:20 minutes remaining and with a hot shooting from the UE Red Warriors’ captian delivered a two straight 3 points to give a 6 points lead, 56-50 to perform a big 18-5 run by the UE Red Warriors in the 4:45 mark, but ADMU’s composure held on with Eric Salamat and Eman Monfort made a 7-0 run to take again lead. Paul Lee who scored 9 points, made his main role in the game as the UE’s point guard attack the ADMU’s defense and with his good ball passing benefited mostly James Martinez who scored 22 points, 18 of which were from beyond-the-arc to keep the hope alive for the final spot of Final 4.

• REFLECTING ON IT •

Keep in mind the difference between a winner's and a loser's mentality. Winners focus on winning big—not just how to win, but how to win big. Losers, however, don't focus on losing; they just focus on getting by!

• FLESHING IT OUT •

Each Warrior wants to leave the mark of his will, his signature, on important acts he touches. This is not the voice of ego but of the human spirit, raising up and declaring that it has something to contribute to the solution of the hardest problems, no matter how vexing!
